Irish Cultural Events - Summer 2018 Roundup
Summer 2018 in Berlin could be known as the Summer of the Irish Festival, with no less than three separate independent Irish Festivals taking place in June and August.
June 9th sees the Irish Summer Folk Festival Berlin return for the 16th time! This festival, presented by long-time Berlin resident Irish musician Robbie Doyle, is one of the longest established Irish music festivals on the continent and is always hugely popular with German and Irish residents alike. Line-up includes the very best of Irish trad and folk musicians on the scene, including Robbie's own band, Blackwater, and an Irish Dance Show.
WHEN? June 9th, from 7pm to 10pm
WHERE? The open-air festival takes place in the beautiful and historic surroundings of the Zitadelle Spandau.
HOW MUCH? Tickets cost €21/€18 and are available from usual outlets.
CRAW alternative Irish music & arts festival will take place in Berlin’s Kultstätte Keller as part of the 48hrs Neukölln open art initiative from the 22-24th of June. It will feature cutting-edge Berlin based Irish musicians such as Nina Hynes, Candice Gordon, Shaun Mulrooney, Setanta's good friend Eric Eckhart and many more. The festival will also include theatre and spoken word performances by actor and playwright Mary Kelly (who I'm delighted to say will be reviving her brilliant play Two For A Girl) and poet Turlough O Broin among others. Dee Mulorooney and Richie Heffernan will feature among the visual artists, and there are some very special guests who will travel from Ireland to take part (Damien Dempsey and John Connors!!!). The mad thing is, the festival is FREE OF CHARGE, apart from the Damien Dempsey gig on the Saturday evening, tickets for which are available here at only €20 for early birds!
The list of artists and assorted participants is magnificent, but way too long to include here, so why not go over to their page and see it for yourself ---> list of artists
