Irish Cultural Events - JUNE 2018 UPDATE

Bloomsday in Berlin

2018-06-08.jpg

James Joyce's Ulysses, Ireland's most famous novel, is set in Dublin on June 16th, 1904. On this date, known internationally as Bloomsday – derived from the protagonist of Ulysses, Leopold Bloom, celebrations of the novel can be enjoyed in almost every country in the world. Participants normally dress in early 20th century style and enjoy gorgonzola sandwiches and burgundy, while events of Ulysses are reinacted and read by fans of the great writer and his novel.

The Curious Fox Books in Neukölln are hosting their Bloomsday event on Saturday evening from 7pm in their bookshop at Flughafenstraße 22.

Entrance is free , early 20th Century fancy dress is encouraged, and the reading promises to be enjoyable for both the Joycean scholar and the uninitiated alike.
